Dr. Elizabeth Galik is a professor at the University of Maryland School of Nursing and a nurse practitioner who specializes in the medical and neuropsychiatric care for older adults with dementia. She teaches in the adult gerontological primary care nurse practitioner program and conducts research focused on improving care practices for older adults with dementia in long-term care settings. Dr. Galik practices clinically with Sheppard Pratt's Memory Disorders Clinic and provides direct patient care to older adults with dementia and their caregivers in outpatient clinics, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes and has developed a house call practice for dementia symptom management. Dr. Galik conducts research to test the impact of interventions designed to optimize physical function, physical activity, mood, and behavior of long-term care residents with dementia. She has served as a member of the conference planning committee and is a past president of GAPNA.
