Myla Magno DNP, APRN, GNP-BC, GSC, PMHNP-BC

Dr. Myla Magno is a gerontological nurse practitioner who recently transitioned from the inpatient geriatrics setting to the infectious disease department at VA Houston, Texas. She currently works in the post-acute COVID-19 clinic and the outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy program. She has been in the healthcare profession for 27 years, with 13 of those years as an independent primary care provider working in SNFs and assisted living centers. She has also worked with house call programs at private, state, and federal levels. She worked with the University of Texas LBJ geriatrics and palliative house call program, the Houston VA's home-based primary care program, and the community living center. Dr. Magno has been certified as a gerontological nurse specialist since 2019 and was recently certified as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner in 2021. She received her master's and Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees at UT Health Science Cizik School of Nursing and completed the post-master psychiatric NP program at Wilkes University 2021. She served as past president for the GAPNA's Texas Chapter in 2019 and is the current Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center APRN council chair and co-chair of the APRN research subcommittee, evidence-based practice group, and virtual journal club. The National Hartford Center of Gerontological Nursing Excellence recognized Dr. Magno as one of the National Hartford Gerontological Nursing Excellence Distinguished Educators in 2020. The same year, Dr. Magno received the award as one of five of over 200 members of the Texas Nurse Practitioners Association (TNA) recognized as "Nurse of The Year" for her dedicated contribution and mentorship to nursing education and leadership in the community.
