Susan Gibson is anurse practitioner with experience in both palliative and hospice care,especially in the area of pain and symptom management. She has seen patientsacross all care settings including home, ambulatory, acute care, and nursingfacilities. She has been instrumental in educating nurses in her communityabout end-of-life nursing care through annual ELNEC courses. She is a publishedauthor in the field of palliative and hospice care. She began working withdying patients as a hospice volunteer with end-of-life work serving as theimpetus to enter the nursing field. Her initial nursing education was fundedthrough a scholarship from a hospice agency. Throughout her career as aregistered nurse, she has always been drawn to the care of dying patients andtheir families regardless of the setting, from surgical/trauma intensive careto an inpatient hospice facility to working as a palliative care nurse in anacute care facility. She is a Respecting Choices certified Advance Care Plannerfacilitator. She is also a graduate of the Sacred Art of Living AnamcaraProject, a project designed to prepare healthcare providers to be fully presentat the bedside.
