This session addresses the impact of atrial fibrillation upon patients in the gerontological setting. An overview of the pathophysiology of atrial fibrillation are provided along with strategies for management to assist in patient outcomes.

  • Describe the basic pathophysiology, risk factors, and comorbid conditions related to atrial fibrillation.
  • Discuss treatment options for management of atrial fibrillation in the geriatric population.
  • Analyze atrial fibrillation case studies in the geriatric population.
