153 - The Role of Advanced Practice Nurses in Hospice and Palliative Care

Sep 20, 2012 1:15pm ‐ Sep 20, 2012 2:15pm

Standard: $35.00
Members: $30.00

Description

APNs currently deliver palliative care in a variety of settings: private homes, nursing homes, assisted living, primary care, and acute care. Certification exists for this specialty yet not all APNs who report providing palliative care are certified. This session explores the integration of palliative expertise into standard care and the potential impact on quality and outcomes, including reduced acute care readmissions and increased patient quality of life.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss the role of the advanced practice nurse (APN) practicing palliative care in various settings.
  • Examine the benefits of incorporating palliative care into standard APN medical practice.
  • Explore resources for APNs to obtain palliative care experience and education, including a discussion on certification as an advanced practice hospice and palliative nurse.
