Valerie K. Sabol is the new director of the accelerated BSN program for the Duke University School of Nursing. She has more than 20 years of acute care experience and is board-certified as both an adult acute care and geriatric nurse practitioner. She received her BSN degree from Penn State University and her MSN degree as an acute care nurse practitioner from the University of Pennsylvania. She earned her PhD in nursing at the University of Maryland School of Nursing in Baltimore.
Before being named ABSN Director, Dr. Sabol served as the director of the adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner specialty in the MSN program at DUSON for 3 years. Prior to working at Duke, Dr. Sabol was the specialty director of the trauma, critical care, and emergency CNS/ACNP master’s program at the University of Maryland for eleven years, with a clinical practice in the surgical intermediate care unit at the University of Maryland Medical Center. She currently provides care to older veterans through the Geriatric, Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Durham, NC. Her clinical and research interests include translating and implementing evidence-based practices into the care of both obese and older adults in acute and critical care settings.
