Dr. Valerie K. Sabol is a clinical professor and chair for the Division of Healthcare in Adult Populations at Duke University School of Nursing. She received her PhD from the University of Maryland. At both Duke and University of Maryland, Dr. Sabol was the director of the adult-gerontology acute care NP program. Dr. Sabol has more than 25 years of clinical experience across multiple settings and is board-certified as both an adult acute care and gerontology nurse practitioner. She actively practices as a nurse practitioner at Duke University Medical Center with the Endocrinology Inpatient Consultation Service, where she manages adult/older adult patients with complex endocrine disorders and associated obesity. Her work has helped build clinical partnerships with the Duke Health system. Dr. Sabol has served on editorial boards for critical care, geriatric, and obesity-focused journals, was the column co-editor for AACN Advanced Critical Care and Geriatric Nursing, and is past president of the Gerontology Advanced Practice Nurses Association (GAPNA). Her clinical and research interests include translating and implementing evidence-based practices into the care of both obese and older adults in acute and critical care settings.
