Associate Professor of Psychiatry, University of Hawaii School of Medicine

Dr. Brett Lu is an associate professor of psychiatry at the University of Hawaii School of Medicine, where he has been a faculty member since 2007. He received a combined MD/PhD training at the St. Louis University School of Medicine, with a doctoral degree in genetics. He then completed a general psychiatry residency, a psychiatry research fellowship, and a clinical geriatric psychiatry fellowship at the University of New Mexico. He is board certified in general and geriatric psychiatry. He provides geriatric psychiatry service in various settings, including emergency room, inpatient setting, and various community sites. His professional and teaching interests include treatment of severe behavioral symptoms in dementia, application of pharmacogenomics in psychiatry, and novel, evidence-based treatment of severe depression such as ketamine. He has published and presented nationally on these works. He also has been selected yearly by Honolulu Magazine as a top doctor in geriatric psychiatry since 2015.
