The 40th anniversary of GAPNA is a historic opportunity to gather members together to reminisce and share how and why the organization began. This presentation includes the evolution of the GNP (now AG) role, impact of the consensus model, and innovative creation of GAPNA’s gerontological specialist certification. We examine forces in healthcare and nursing that shaped the current AG role and discuss implications for the future. The goal of this presentation is for learners to advance their understanding of GAPNA’s growth and development as a professional organization and its enduring impact on excellence in advanced practice nursing and care of older adults.
