Chronic pain is very common in older adults, but has remained misunderstood, under-diagnosed, and inappropriately treated, as NPs have not been adequately prepared in pain assessment and management. This session focuses on the new AGS guidelines, stresses the importance of continued education for the NP, and identifies those barriers that once precluded the NP from achieving an effective pain management program for geriatric patients.
