Background: The benefits of participating in time banking for older people with chronic diseases include meeting care and social needs, conserving care resources, and promoting physical and mental health. Understanding participation willingness and related factors among older people with chronic diseases is vital for the effective implementation and sustainable development of time banking.
Purpose: To explore the participation willingness and the related factors among older people with chronic diseases in community.
Methods: A crossâsectional design was applied, and 102 older people with chronic diseases in community were invited to participate from September 2020 to January 2021. Data about demographic information, awareness and participation willingness of time banking, and care needs for older people with chronic diseases were collected. Factors associated with participation willingness of time banking were identified using logistic regression analysis.
Results: A total of 47.1% of older people with chronic diseases reported their participation willingness of time banking. The participation willingness of older people who had known time banking before the study (OR 11.044, 95%CI 3.562, 34.238) was higher than that of those who had not. Older people with 1 or 2 chronic diseases (OR 5.790, 95%CI 1.471-22.789; OR 4.536, 95%CI 1.038-19.816 respectively) were more likely to be willing to participate in time banking compared with those who had 3 or more chronic diseases. Higher participation willingness was associated with higher spiritual and cultural needs (OR 1.260, 95%CI 1.092, 1.453) of respondents.
Applicability to advanced practice nursing practice: For community healthcare providers, it is necessary to intensify publicity of time banking, and encourage the older people with chronic diseases in relatively good physical condition and having higher spiritual and cultural needs to participate in time banking.
